Good morning my loyal Painkillers, retro gamers, and newbies to the site. Welcome to another edition of Grab A Buddy Monday. Some of you may know that I’m a huge combat sports fan, and I love the fact that we have video games to go along with them. Unfortunately, there are no boxing games coming out these days. Good thing there are some retro boxing games out there. Some are realistic with real boxers in them, and some are just cartoonish fun. Its time to grab your buddy, hook up your Sega Dreamcast, and its time to play Ready 2 Rumble Boxing.
This game came out in 1999, first for the Dreamcast, and then later for the PlayStation and the N64. The game is filled with colorful made up characters similar to Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! for the NES. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing has a 3D environment, which allows better movement, and control of your fighter, which some boxing games before this didn’t have. In this game, well duh, you beat the crap out of your opponent. It has a cool “Rumble Fury” feature in it, that can cause massive amount of damage, and can win you the fight, if done successfully. How it works is you land hard punches to spell out the word Rumble. Some punches will unlock one letter, while others will unlock multiple letters, depending on how hard the punch is. Once you spell out Rumble you can active the Rumble Fury combo and beat down your opponent.
This game is lots of fun! You have so may characters to choose from, each one with their own fighting style, and Rumble Fury to fit each fighter. You and your buddy will have a blast beating the hell out of each other, and finding out which fighter you like the best. If you can’t find the Dreamcast version, or if you didn’t own a Dreamcast at all, it did hit the PlayStation and the N64, so you have options. Until next time everyone!
