Racing With TNT, Nitro, And Missiles

Good morning my loyal Painkillers, newbies to the site, and retro gamers! Welcome to another edition of Grab A Buddy Monday (On a Tuesday). So what did people do back in the day when you wanted to play a Mario Kart style game, but you only own a PlayStation 1? Simple, you dressed in all black, ski mask up, and you did an old fashioned B & E into someone’s house you knew owned a N64 and a copy of Mario Kart 64. I’m joking! Somewhat! Hey guys, I grew up in Jersey, so something like that happened at least once! Also, I’m sure the statue of limitations is up on those crimes. Wait, I just wrote all of that out!? Shit! Anyway, Crash Team Racing!

Released in 1999, Crash Team Racing allows you to kart race as some of your favorite characters from the world of Crash Bandicoot. Each racer comes with their own kart, and each have a different speed, acceleration, and turning abilities. Races are 3 lap races filled with ? boxes, and fruit crates. ? Boxes contains weapons such as rolling bombs, missiles, and exploding crates. The fruit crates contain Wumpa fruit. If you collect and hold onto 10 of these fruits, you become “juiced up”, meaning that your kart becomes faster, and your weapons become stronger.

This game is truly great! Yes it gets the comparisons to Mario Kart, but who cares! Its still one hell of a game! If Mario is out there kart racing as the big N mascot, shouldn’t Crash have his own kart racing game as Sony’s unofficial mascot? Yes, damnit he needed this! Cool thing is, I don’t have to tell you to try to go find this game. Why you ask? Because its been remastered! That’s right, so if you want to experience this game for yourself, pick up a copy of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for your PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch on June 21, 2019! Until next time everyone!
