Arin Hanson —

Good morning my loyal Painkillers, and Retro gamers, and newbies to the site, welcome to another edition of Grab A Buddy Monday. As I writing this, it is the NFL Draft weekend. How did your team’s picks go? Hopefully your team did well, unless you are a Giants fan, and that first round pick! (Burn bitches!) Anyway, this had me thinking that I should write about one of my favorite football games growing up.( And for my international Painkillers, if you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m talking about American Football.) It’s time now to grab your buddy, hook up your NES, and let’s play some Tecmo Bowl.

Originally an arcade game in 1987, Temco Bowl came out for the NES in 1989. This is a very simple game, compared to a game like Madden today. Since they couldn’t get the NFL licence to use the actual teams, they just used the home cities of the 12 popular teams, and mimicked them as much as they could. They were able to use the actual players names in the game. (Yeah, I don’t know how they were able to pull that off!)

This game is tons of fun. Its a very easy game to pick up and play, since almost every team offensively has two run and two pass plays, and defense has the same.(2 teams have 3 pass plays and one run play for offense.) If you have never played this game before, find a copy and play it for yourself. Here, I’ll give you a cheat code. Pick Los Angeles, and when on offense, run the ball all day. You’re welcome! Until next time everyone!
