Hey everyone, so with this month Rant Friday, I took my inspiration from something that happened in the movie Bird Box. Incase you haven’t seen this movie yet, the fuck is wrong with you? Its been on Netflix for over a month now! Anyway, without giving too much away, there is a part early in the movie, where a bunch of characters are in a house, trying to figure out what is going on around them, and what is causing this. One guy speaks up, giving an unbelievable, but very plausible explanation of what is going on. Unfortunately, since he is wearing his uniform from the local supermarket, he is quickly dismissed, cause you know, he can’t be smart, or know what he is talking about since he works at a supermarket. I sat on my couch literally shaking my head, and saying to myself, “I can’t believe that we are still doing this!”
I know that this became a big issue during the lead up to the 2016 Presidential Election here in the States. The news media kept running stories about how Hillary Clinton’s base were these “smart”, college educated people, while Donald Trump’s base were “dumb”, uneducated people. This was bullshit to me! I have met many of people that went to college, and are dumb as hell, and I have met many of people that have never stepped foot on a college and they can have conversations on any topic, and what they are saying is not only well thought out, it has logic and reasoning behind it. So how come in 2019 we still label people smart or dumb based on the level of education they got, or what job they work?
It seems like people tend to forget that there have been many of successful people in the past and even these days didn’t graduate from college. Take people like Henry Ford, Dave Thomas, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and many more have been very successful in the business world. Many of your favorite celebrities don’t have college degrees either. Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Kim Kardashian, Adam Carolla, and many others, have had successful careers, made a boat load of cash, all without a piece of paper from an overpriced school.
I know there is going to be someone that is going to be in the comments like, well this person that you mentioned has an honorary degree. To which my reply is, you fucking idiot! An honorary degree is the same as the participation trophy they give out to kids just for showing up. So in conclusion, before you judge someone based off their job or education level, actually talk to them before you write them off as dumb.
I’m Captain Pain, and go fuck yourself!
