Humans And Androids Mingling Together!

I am friend bot…

Good morning Painkillers, and anime fans, and welcome to another addition of Anime Wednesday. For today, I will continue with giving you another really short anime series. Those that checked in last time, know that we checked out Blue Submarine No. 6, and know that the show was only four espisodes. This time, this series is a six espisodes long. Well then, let’s get into it. Here it is, Time Of Eve.

So, in the not to distance future, androids are common place in the world, well in Japan anyway. They tend to do everything for humans, and most get treated like slaves. They are forced to display their status ring, at all times, so that everyone can tell the difference between the humans and the androids. The androids seem to follow Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws Of Robotics. For those that have never read his series of books, or don’t know what the laws are, here you go:

Law 1- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

Law 2- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Law 3- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

The story follows Rikuo Sakisaka. He is a high school student and a gifted piano player, and very good with robots. When he finds some odd programming in his android’s Sammy system, he tries to figure out where it came from. It takes him to a café where humans and androids interact with each other. The androids don’t display their status rings, so no one really knows who is human and who is an android. There is a rule in the café that stats, that no one is allowed to discriminate against anyone else in the the café. Also, when someone leaves, the door automatically locks for a few minutes, so that no one can follow that person to find out if they are human or an android.

Like most things this short, it is good and leaves you wanting more. I want to know why, or what causes these androids to do things on their own. Who is human and who is an android? Are the androids becoming self aware? Is this the actual future that we are currently heading down? So many questions, and luckly there is also a movie out, so between the show, and the movie, all questions should be answered. This is currently on on Crunchyroll, but you have to have one of their packages that cost you more money. Sorry I forget what they are called. Anyway, I talked to much for a show only having six episodes. Until next time Painkillers.
