Reboot-This!: True King of Kings

Hey everyone, Captain Pain here. So since this article is not one of my normal ones I usually do, I decided to do this one a bit different. So by now you may or may not have seen some other articles about games that the writer wished got a reboot, so I decided to write one myself. So many of you may or may not know this, but I am a huge fan of combat sports. It doesn’t matter if it’s wrestling, boxing, MMA, or just anything where two people are going to kick the shit out of each other, within the confines of rules and regulations, I am there. I am the same with video games as well. Since I know that I can always get a UFC and WWE games just about every year, there is something missing from my game library, and that is boxing. So I gave I wish gets a reboot, is the Knockout Kings/Fight Night series.

So to give a quick summary of the games, Knockout Kings came out in 1998 and ended in 2003, and came back as Fight Night in 2004 with the last game coming out in 2011. This was a very good boxing franchise that featured legendary fighters like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Oscar De La Hoya, and many more over the years. It had some cool game modes like a created fighter story mode, a real fighter story mode, and a mode called slugfest, which reminded me of those old tough man competitions from the early 90’s. The franchise was so good, and looked so realistic that it was used to try to answer questions such as could Mike Tyson beat Muhammad Ali. It was also the game simulator that was used in the movie Rocky Balboa, to set up the fight in the movie.

Do I think that this game would ever get rebooted, unfortunately no. There are a few reasons why I think this. First one, the franchise was an EA title, so we already know that they are not into serving their fans. Next reason is the popularity of MMA. Over the past decade it seemed like boxing has taken a back seat to the UFC, and other forms of MMA. It seems like it would be a bad time to put out a boxing game, with its popularity not as high as it once was. Another reason is who would you put into the game? Yes granted you can always put the old legends in the game, but most of them haven’t been in the ring in over a decade. Sure there are a few current boxers that they could put in, but are they big enough names that casual fight fan would go out and spend $60 on a game. Well since this game won’t be coming out, EA should at least dust off the simulator and answer the question that has come up a few months ago. Could current Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder, beat Mike Tyson in a fight? Oh well, until next time.
